Creating Characters Out Of Basic Shapes

So here are my week's drawings. The purpose of this exercise is to recognize good design with basic shapes while utilizing three simple principles: Big Medium Small, Straights Against Curves, and Intuitive Strokes. I began with just the shape and then gradually built a character within them.

Pimping Out My Flash Animation

I finally found a place that will host my animation for FREE -- "Free is better." Thanks Animation Corner! Unfortunately, I can only link to them so you will have to leave my blog for a few seconds. Anyway check them out when you get uno momento and leave cruel comments for me to read.

My Trip to NYC

My Trip to New York

This was an old drawing I did using SketchBook Pro and Sony Interactive Display. One of my favorites. I'm hoping to color it one day.

I will be adding some animations soon, but I'm still looking for someone to host them for FREE. Free is always better.

Nailing Down the Look

Okay, I did some tinkering to the look and feel of the blog. But don't get too attached though, I might start hating it in two weeks or so. I also added some more links to the side there. They include artists whose work I really enjoy. I''l be adding a lot more as I find them. I think I may add a section of artists that have influenced me as well.

The picture below was a sketch I did for Samanella:

Character Design For Animation

Module 1 exercises. Not too exciting, but got to start to somewhere right?

Clothed Figure Drawings

Here are some figure drawings. My instructor was David Mar, a former Disney artist and great teacher.

Figure Head Drawings

I took this course my first semester (Fall 05) with Warren Chang. He is another amazing artist and instructor at AAU.

How This Is Going To Go Down

This blog was created so that I could post my work as I progress through my master's curriculum for traditional animation. I won't be commenting much on my life outside of animation, but its not like I have that much of a life outside of it to begin with :-)

Just FYI, I am studying at the Academy of Art, which is located in San Francisco, but I'm currently just doing some online courses while I'm still in Florida. I'm working as a Graphic Artist for eLearning company to pay the bills and the tuition, but hopefuly I will have enough balls to quit this job later this month and move out to Cali to finish my degree.

Well, I hope whoever reads this blog enjoys seeing my progression to a profession animator. It should be interesting. Please feel free to comment on any my work or just make suggestions. I should be updating this site regularly with work from the courses I'm taking, drawings from my sketchbook, and any freelance opportunities I may get. Take care.
